Who am I?

Hi, I’m Nicole Sayre — an emerging objects conservator and lifelong maker with a passion for creativity, history, and care for cultural heritage. I hold a Master’s and a Graduate Diploma in Conservation Studies, specializing in ceramics and related materials, from West Dean College, where my research explored innovative and accessible conservation materials. Along the way, I’ve been honored with awards such as the ICON Nigel Williams Prize (2025), nomination for the Edward James Foundation Trustees’ Prize (2024), Behrens Foundation Scholarship (2023), and the BADA Harold Davies Prize (2023) which have all recognized my work on creative, interdisciplinary approaches to conservation.

My path has taken me from hands-on archaeological digs to sculpture studios, from production pottery workshops in France to the conservation of monuments in Central Park in New York City. What drives me across all these experiences is a deep commitment to both craftsmanship and curiosity — pairing technical skill with creative problem-solving to bring objects and stories back to life.

Beyond the workshop, I love connecting with others through talks, workshops, and collaborative projects. I believe conservation is not only about preserving the past but also about making it accessible and meaningful for the present.
